We held a community meeting in Kibirashi, Tanzania about our water project. Joining Emmanuel Ole Kileli [Director of EMAYO] and Bruce Downie [Director of the Kesho Trust] at the meeting were two other supporters of the Kesho Trust, Lorraine Wapling of Frome, Somerset, UK and Mark Miller of Victoria, BC, Canada. There is good progress in setting up the project and UNDP visited the site in March and met with some key people in the community in response to our application for funding.

The Kesho Trust has partnered with a group from Malaspina University College to develop a research program focused on the relationship between protected areas and local communities. The research program is a three country effort - Canada, Ghana and Tanzania. Recently the consortium has been successful in the first phase of a major grant application where their preliminary concept was one of nine selected from about 100 applicants. Now the work on the detailed proposal begins. Workshops are being held in Tanzania in May to develop strong community and partner connections. The full proposal is due in October.
