The Child and Nature Network

Bob Peart represented The Kesho Trust at a national meeting of the Child and Nature Network in Minneapolis in August.  Read Bob’s report on the meeting.  Subsequent to this meeting Bob has been appointed a Senior Associate to the C&NN.  We also encourage you to review the C&NN website for their regular updates. www.cnaturenet.org

Richard Louv in Canada - again

Richard Louv is returning to Canada on Saturday December 1.  He is scheduled to speak at the Centennial Scouter Conference in Richmond.  When he is here we are arranging for Richard to meet with key people involved with the Scouting movement to discuss how the children-nature link can be strengthened within the Scouting movement.

National Forum on Children and Nature

Mark August 16-19, 2008 in your calendars for this gathering of practitioners, academics, researchers and interested individuals for a Children, Family and Nature workshop in Victoria.  More details will be posted on our website. For more information contact info@thekeshotrust.org

BC Provincial Government

Efforts continue to assist the BC government with determining how they can adopt the children nature program into their existing programs.  Meetings are being held at the Cabinet and senior staff level with ActNowBC and various ministries including the Ministry of Environment, BC Parks and the Ministry of Advanced Education.  In particular we are requesting their assistance with a province-wide youth gathering and a meeting with influential businesses and corporations.

… and from Alberta ……

The Parks Canada (Palisades) Stewardship Education Centre is embarking upon a project to transform an historic ranch in Jasper National Park into a vibrant youth education center with the objective of cultivating stewards of the future for the national parks and national historic sites of Canada.  This project presents an image of a national youth stewardship education centre set in the heart of a national park and in the centre of a UNESCO World Heritage Site that will lead the country in stewardship education and training.

…… and from Peru …

It is nice to hear how our Nature Child Reunion effort resonates for people both near and far away.  We are delighted to welcome Joaquin Leguia to our network and hope that he will be able to join us at the workshop next year in Victoria.  Check out what he is doing in Peru at: www.mundodeania.org
