Research Program Award Announced

June 29 – 30, 2009:  The Protected Areas and Poverty Reduction Research Alliance awarded an International Community University Research Alliance [ICURA] grant in Ottawa by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council [SSHRC] and the International Development Research Agency [IDRC].

Members of the Protected Areas and Poverty Reduction Research Alliance led by Vancouver Island University attended a workshop in Ottawa where the award winners were being announced. The workshop was also an opportunity to benefit from the reflection and discussion among members from the other winning projects. Staff from the sponsoring agencies, SSHRC and IDRC, also provided background to the thinking and experience that has gone into the development of the ICURA as a way of helping the new grantees to plan and begin to implement their work. The Kesho Trust is a member of the Protected Areas and Poverty Reduction Research Alliance and Bruce Downie, Director, who attended the workshop, will be leading our participation in Tanzania.
